Misha Lagidze often achieves this “blurry-pulsating” effect by combining several techniques:
Layered paint work
He applies paint in translucent layers, often leaving traces of previous brushstrokes.
Uses different densities: thick areas are adjacent to an almost dry brush or shading.
Blurring and stretching the form
He partially stretches the paint over a wet surface, creating a “fading to nothing” effect.
He uses rags, sponges, or even his hands to wipe or smear areas.
Drips and gravity
He dilutes acrylic or oil to a liquid state and lets the paint flow down.
Drips work as visual lines, setting the dynamics and enhancing the feeling of decay.
Contrast of sharp and blurred edges
Some fragments are clearly drawn (for example, teeth or the line of the nose), while others disappear into the haze.
This contrast creates a vibration of the image, as if it is in the process of transformation.
Halo and smoky background
Around the head, he often makes a soft, almost aerosol halo, which creates the impression of glowing or evaporating.
This connects the figure with the background, making it part of the atmosphere.
In essence, he balances between portrait and abstraction, allowing the viewer to complete the image in his mind.
